Bhujangam is a meter in Sanskrit literature in which the letters and sounds set in each quarter of the verse allude to the graceful slither of a serpant. Sri Subrahmanya Bhujanga was composed by Adi Shankaracarya, in praise of Lord Jayantinatha enshrined in Tiruchendur. It was composed by him to cure himself of a stomach ailment. It carries a reference to the popular Temple legend of giving the Holy ash in a special leaf (caller Panneer ilai in Tamizh).
