Golu Bommais: Devotion and Tradition

Navratri is a season when houses are adorned with vibrant arrangements of Golu Bommais, carefully arranged on steps referred to as padis. Dolls in each arrangement symbolize gods, saints, animals, and episodes from Hindu epics, capturing devotion and storytelling at the centre of the festival.

The bommai placement and display are not just for aesthetics. It represents the path of life and the existence of divine energy in all forms of creation. Each evening, families come together to sing chants, recount stories, and share prasadam, reinforcing devotion as well as friendship and bond.
