Introducing a stunning picture of Devi Padmavati. A form of Sri Maha Lakshmi, she is the consort of Srinivasa, a form of Maha Vishnu. The name Srinivasa refers to 'the one in whom Lakshmi (Sri) resides (Nivasa)'. He is also known as Venkateshwara or Venkatachalapati, the Lord (Ishwara/pati) of Venkatachalam (Venkata hill). The story goes: One day, Narada was conducting a yagna, and required a deity to attend it. So, he sent Rishi Bhrigu to find a suitable god. After visiting Brahma and Shiva, who were both preoccupied, he visited Vaikuntha. Maha Vishnu and Maha Lakshmi were relaxing together and didn't notice the sage's entry. After being ignored by all three of the trinity, an angered Bhrigu kicked the chest of Maha Vishnu. The compassionate lord immediately apologised to the sage and started massaging his legs. In doing so, he destroyed the root of Bhrigu's ego.
However, Lakshmi was furious with these events and departed for earth, in the form of Padmavati - the daughter of King Akasha Raja. Maha Vishnu followed her and lived in the forest as a hermit named Srinivasa. One day, as Srinivasa was on a hunting spree, he came across a wild elephant. Intrigued by the lone creature, he followed it into a clearing, where Padmavati and her maids were playing. At first, the maids and the princess were frightened by the towering elephant. However, on sensing Srinivasa's presence, it turned around, bowed in front of him, and lumbered off into the forest.
Both Padmavati and Srinivasa got married with the help of a loan from Kubera. Thus, Maha Vishnu and Maha Lakshmi were reunited, and after a fulfilling earthly life, returned to Vaikuntha.
