Thambulam is an age old tradition, in which the female host offers Vethalai Paaku (Betel leaf and nut), along with Kumkum (Vermillion) and Manjal (Turmeric powder), to her female guests. It is believed that Vethalai Paaku is beloved by Ambal, the mother goddess, and the fragrance released when she chews it is released in all 10 directions. Turmeric is a highly auspicious ingredient - often linked with Varahi Amman. It is a medicinal marvel, with astonishing healing properties. Kumkum, or Vermillion, is believed to represent Shakti herself.
It is an ancient custom to offer these sacred items to lady guests, especially after poojas such as Varalakshmi, or during events like Navaratri. This pack contains Manjal and Kumkum, as well as 2 Turmeric fingers and Charadu (Tirumangalya thread). This provides easy access to the items required for Thambulam, all in one place, and for a low price!
