Mahanyasam

Mahanyasam is a sacred ritual/recitation, performed as a prelude to the Rudra Abhishekam. It involves purifying the body through rituals called "Nyasas" for every body part, symbolising the re-construction of the body worthy of worship for Mahadeva the purest of the pure and noble Gods among the holy Trinity. 

The term "Mahanyasam" is derived from the Sanskrit words "Maha," meaning great, and "Nyasa," meaning consecration or placement. Therefore, Mahanyasam is considered a significant consecration or purification ceremony of every limb in the body invoking an appropriate devata to each limb and its subtle "astral" equivalent.

Key elements of Mahanyasam may include Mantra chanting, Abhishekham, Nyasam and invocation of Devatas.

Mahanyasam is considered highly auspicious and is believed to bestow spiritual purification, protection, and blessings upon the participants. It is commonly performed in temples and during major religious festivals, especially those dedicated to Lord Shiva. The recitation of mantras and the pouring of sacred liquids on the Shiva Linga during this ritual are thought to invoke the divine presence and purify the individual's body, mind, and soul offering a chance for Mukti/Moksha after a content life.
