This is the story about how Ganesha taught a lesson in humility to Kubera. Kubera is the king of Yakshas. Yakshas are like asuras but more approachable. Kubera is sometimes referred to as Dhanapati since he is very wealthy. Ganesha's insatiable hunger, which is finally quelled not by the feast but by the fistful of rice sent by his mother Parvati, makes Kubera learn that the feast he had organised was only to show off his financial status, and not for feeding the guests.
